Resto Shaman’s 2pc bonus Nature’s Barrier healing is attributed to the healer now

Resto Shaman’s 2pc bonus Nature’s Barrier healing is now being attributed to the healer, instead of the tank.

Because the healing was being attributed to the tank with Earth Shield, many healers have opted to drop the 2pc bonus (and the 4pc was very situational, since usually when Shamans use Spiritwalker’s Grace, it is often more for convenience rather than huge damage phases).   And there are some great itemized pieces for offpieces for those who chose not to use tier.

The change was made about a month ago, and it was not mentioned in the patch notes, I simply noticed in when looking at logs.  However many Shamans I had mentioned this to were not aware of the change, and dusted off their 2pc once again.  I find it is about 2-6% of total healing, depending on the fight.

I wrote about this several months ago, but had given up hope that this would be changed.  FWIW, I always used my 2pc bonus, even though the healing wasn’t attributed to me, simply because it was better for the tanks, even though I could have looked as though I pulled better HPS on paper.

No plans to remove the dispelling CD

Remember the days (oh how we loved you Heroic Sinestra and Heroic Spine of Deathwing) when healers could lovingly dispel their fellow raiders every global?  And the much beloved Cleansing Totem?  Ever since Blizzard made the change to put a cooldown on dispelling, there have been cries from healers to remove it.  While a CD makes sense for PVP, when it comes to PVE, you sometimes have to plan comp around which healers you have to dispel (cough, Horridon).  Well, Blizzard has officially said there are no plans to remove the dispel cooldown in Warlords of Draenor 🙁

What do you think about removing the cooldown on dispel in the near future?

Will Resto Shamans see Deep Healing mastery changed in Warlords of Draenor?

Resto Shamans have a love/hate relationship with mastery.  It is great if you are working on progression while also underhealing a fight.  But throw a couple disc priests or an extra healer into the mix, and mastery is pretty useless unless things go sideways and the raid is about to die from some mechanic a raid team member screwed up.

Shamans have been hoping for a change to mastery for ages, and it kind of looks as though Blizzard doesn’t have intentions of changing it at this time.

IMO, Deep Healing would be good as a situational/optional talent, but too situational for a mastery

Having Deep Healing as a talent would be great, so Shamans could switch it up when the raid is running down a healer or on progression.  However, with stats being the way it is next expansion, it would literally require a second set of healing gear – one for mastery and one that will likely be haste and/or crit.  However, if mastery continues to be the go-to stat for Elemental Shamans, it could get use as a second spec gear set for Deep Healing and/or Elemental Shaman.

New Shaman Talents for Level 100 in Warlords of Draenor

We have the new talents that were on preview today for the new expansion Warlords of Draenor.  Here are the Shaman talents (I am including Elemental and Enhancement for Reference).

First Talent Choice: Rainstorm

Restoration
Condensation Totem
100 Mana
Instant
Summons a Water Totem with 5 health at the feet of the caster for 1 min that collects 25% of all overhealing, and grants it to the Shaman as spell power towards their next Healing Wave, Healing Surge, Greater Healing Wave, Chain Heal, or Riptide.

Elemental & Enhancement
Storm Armor
Passive
While your Lightning Shield is active, lightning with strike a random enemy within 40 yards that you are in combat with every 3.00 sec for 2000 Nature damage.

Second Talent Choice: Storm Elemental Totem
1022 Mana
Instant – 5 min cooldown
Summons an Air Totem with 6000 health at the feet of the caster, calling forth a Greater Storm Elemental to hurl gusts of winds on the caster’s enemies.  Each gust of wind does damage to the enemy, and then heals all allies within 15 yards for 100% of the damage dealt, split evenly.  Lasts until cancelled.

Third Talent Choice: Reach of the Elements

Your Chain Heal also bounces to all targets affected by your Riptide

Elemental & Enhancement
Spew Lava
40 yd range
Instant – 45 sec cooldown
Empowers your current Fire totem with the power of lava, causing it to spew globs of lava at a random enemy withinht 40 yards every 1.00 sec for 15 sec.  Each glob of lava deals 2000 Fire damage to all enemies within 8 yards.

Why is the Resto Shaman 2pc healing bonus healing not being attributed to the healer?

If you are your Resto Shaman with your 2pc t16, you might not have noticed that your healing 2pc bonus isn’t simply wrapped into the healing done by your Earth Shield.  Instead, the healing bonus is being attributed to the tank, as the tank’s self healing.  Yes, while all the other healing classes have healing tier bonuses that increase their healing output, Resto Shaman’s 2pc has no increase to their actual HPS.

Here is the bonus:

(2) Set:  When Earth Shield heals a target, the target will gain 300% of the amount healed as an absorb.

So it would be natural to assume that the healing proc would be included in World of Logs as healing from the Resto Shaman.  But instead, the healing from the bonus, called Nature’s Barrier will show up as healing by the target of the Earth Shield.

Here is a screenshot from a heroic 25M kill, which shows Earth Shield 2pc tier bonus healed for 2.6M but it is counting as healing done by the Monk tank (although any target who has Earth Shield will show as Nature’s Barrier being a self-heal by that target, and not by the Resto Shaman who used it).  For this particular fight, that Earth Shield tier bonus, if it had shown up as healing BY the Shaman, would have healed for more than Earthliving and almost as much as the Spirit of Chi-Ji cloak, so it is pretty significant amount of healing Restos are missing out on.

With the Resto Shaman 4pc being the most horrible Resto Shaman tier bonus ever – seriously, why does Blizzard insist on tying a tier bonus to Spiritwalker’s Grace, a spell we use when we have to heal on the run, yet is also when we are seldom able to use our most effective heals, it is usually chain heal spam time – it makes the bonus from the 2pc that much more important, yet it does not have an HPS increase for the Shaman.  It is still a very useful tier bonus, mind you, and all Resto Shamans should be using their T16 2pc when they can get it, but it sucks we do not get an increase in healing from it.

The tier has been out for about a month now, and Blizzard doesn’t seem to be making a move to fix this at all.  Please show a bit of Resto Shaman love and attribute the healing done by the Resto Shaman’s Earth Shield to the Shaman who is using it.

Healing Rain Cannot Last Beyond 40 seconds with Conductivity

The dreams Resto Shamans had of a half hour healing rain have been dashed.  It now caps out at 40 seconds on the PTR with the Conductivity talent.

The time duration has been changing as well, from an additional 2 seconds per direct cast, to 3 seconds, to 4 seconds, to 6 seconds, and to a duration on the PTR seemingly affected by some mysterious Blizzard formula (mine currently says 1.57 seconds on the PTR).

The talent is definitely looking less desirable now with the 40 second cap on fights where the raid remains stacked.
