Thok the Bloodthirsty Detailed Strategy Guide (incl Heroic) for Healers
Thok the Bloodthirsty is the tenth boss in Siege of Orgrimmar.
Any casters will want to make use of instacasts during the later part of stage 1, the Deafening Screech happens at 100 energy, which increases in frequency as his energy regen becomes quicker, will interrupt spellcasts and cause the caster to be locked out for 2 seconds. It can quickly overwhelm healers trying to heal the damage while trying to prevent being lockout out of their spells.
Anyone caught in front of Thok in the second stage will be immediately killed, you need to be sure you are far enough away from him when he targets a new player, that you won’t be hit when he changes direction.
Heroic Mode
Chaining healing CDs is extremely important to this fight on heroic. The cast window is so short during the stack phase with the Deafening Screech boss interupt – and a 2 second lockout if you accidentily cast during the interrupt – makes it so healers can quickly fall behind. The cast timer to the next Deafening Screetch gets shorter and shorter everytime he casts it.
Take advantage of Devo Auras from Pallies (ideally chained) when you get 12-15+ stacks, depending on the available Devos, so you can free cast without worrying about the interrupt. BOPs can also be used on single healers so they can cast longer CDs, such as Resto Druids casting Tranquility.
The melee and range groups can be separated just enough so that healing rain can reach both groups, but it requires pretty precise stack points.
You will need to dispel, use single dispels during the kite phase for those who are kiting (so they don’t die) and for those not stacked up by adds, otherwise try and utilize mass dispel so you do not become overwhelmed.
If you meet enrage, it becomes a kite fight.
You can no longer healing CD through stacks for the entire fight, the boss will now insta-kill after 30 stacks of Deafening Screech. Here is Method’s video of their “bring 10 healers on 25m” strat that was hotfixed while they were in the middle of the pull.
